Making Rugs

In early November 2014, Floor_Story founder Simon Goff and I made a pilgrimage to the rug making workshops of Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh to observe at close quarters the ancient alchemy of weaving and hand tufting. We were there to sample our new Spring/Summer collection which launched at Pick Me Up Festival at Somerset House.

Greeted with a customary warmth and hospitality by the owners of the family factory that make the collection, we proceeded to explore and understand each step of the production process - Dyeing, Tufting, Combing, Carving and finally Drying and Backing.
