CORNER SHOP FOR WRAP (2024)

The Corner Shop collection for Wrap celebrates the everyday objects commonly found in diasporic corner shops and in Brixton Market: Neon price tags, gridded dish cloths, marbled plastic stools and multicoloured bindis. These superficially mundane, mass-produced objects, take on a different character when abstracted and re-composed as chromatic patterns on stationery, textiles and objects for the home.

My colour palettes are developed from a library of colour I create specifically for each collection. The colours for my Wrap collection are gathered from the objects in the corner shops, as well as the shops themselves, which often have a riot of juxtaposed surfaces – painted walls, laminated floors, mismatched fixtures and fittings. The application of pattern across textiles and paper products allows for nuanced tonal variation of the same colours.

The first drop from the ‘Corner Shop Collection’  is a graphic, colour-rich range of kitchen tea towels with special terry-towel detailing, woven patterned napkins, and a series of three wrapping papers.
